My go to exercise for training my serratus/obliques : stick twists 👍🏻. Some people think these are a waste of time and they are...if you don’t do em properly 🙄. Most people just go thru the motions, twisting from side to side, using momentum, not focusing on the mind-muscle connection. I take a stick and place them high on my neck/traps. The higher the better. I take a wide base, plant my feet and keep them there. No shuffling of the feet, no wiggling around. Exhale hard and twist. I contract my obliques as hard as possible while exhaling. Return to the starting position and pause to eliminate any momentum before beginning the next rep. Pro tips : 1. To get the most out of this exercise, DO NOT use any momentum to perform your twists. Your reps should be slow, smooth and under control. Don’t just mindlessly twist from side to side 🙄 2. Proper breathing is crucial. EXHALE when crunching to force all the air out of your stomach for a more intense contraction. 3. Your lower body shouldn’t move at all during this exercise. Only thing moving is from your waist up. 4. To avoid “pulling” the stick, I only put 2 fingers on the bar : my index and middle fingers.
